Psalm 126

Psalm 126

A song of ascents.

¹When the Lord restored^(A) the fortunes of^[a] Zion,
    we were like those who dreamed.^[b]
²Our mouths were filled with laughter,^(B)
    our tongues with songs of joy.^(C)
Then it was said among the nations,
    “The Lord has done great things^(D) for them.”
³The Lord has done great things^(E) for us,
    and we are filled with joy.^(F)

⁴Restore our fortunes,^[c]^(G) Lord,
    like streams in the Negev.^(H)
⁵Those who sow with tears^(I)
    will reap^(J) with songs of joy.^(K)
⁶Those who go out weeping,^(L)
    carrying seed to sow,
will return with songs of joy,
    carrying sheaves with them.

⁷This is what the Lord says:

“Sing^(A) with joy for Jacob;
    shout for the foremost^(B) of the nations.
Make your praises heard, and say,
    ‘Lord, save^(C) your people,
    the remnant^(D) of Israel.’
⁸See, I will bring them from the land of the north^(E)
    and gather^(F) them from the ends of the earth.
Among them will be the blind^(G) and the lame,^(H)
    expectant mothers and women in labor;
    a great throng will return.
⁹They will come with weeping;^(I)
    they will pray as I bring them back.
I will lead^(J) them beside streams of water^(K)
    on a level^(L) path where they will not stumble,
because I am Israel’s father,^(M)
    and Ephraim is my firstborn son.

Hebrews 7:23-28

New International Version

²³Now there have been many of those priests, since death prevented them from continuing in office; ²⁴but because Jesus lives forever, he has a permanent priesthood.^(A) ²⁵Therefore he is able to save^(B) completely^[a] those who come to God^(C) through him, because he always lives to intercede for them.^(D)

²⁶Such a high priest^(E) truly meets our need—one who is holy, blameless, pure, set apart from sinners,^(F) exalted above the heavens.^(G) ²⁷Unlike the other high priests, he does not need to offer sacrifices^(H) day after day, first for his own sins,^(I) and then for the sins of the people. He sacrificed for their sins once for all^(J) when he offered himself.^(K) ²⁸For the law appoints as high priests men in all their weakness;^(L) but the oath, which came after the law, appointed the Son,^(M) who has been made perfect^(N) forever.

Blind Bartimaeus Receives His Sight^(A)

⁴⁶Then they came to Jericho. As Jesus and his disciples, together with a large crowd, were leaving the city, a blind man, Bartimaeus (which means “son of Timaeus”), was sitting by the roadside begging. ⁴⁷When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth,^(B) he began to shout, “Jesus, Son of David,^(C) have mercy on me!”

⁴⁸Many rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”

⁴⁹Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.”

So they called to the blind man, “Cheer up! On your feet! He’s calling you.” ⁵⁰Throwing his cloak aside, he jumped to his feet and came to Jesus.

⁵¹“What do you want me to do for you?” Jesus asked him.

The blind man said, “Rabbi,^(D) I want to see.”

⁵²“Go,” said Jesus, “your faith has healed you.”^(E) Immediately he received his sight and followed^(F) Jesus along the road.
